Since the beginning three years ago, Wildbirds & Peacedrums consists of spouses Andreas Werlin (percussion) and Mariam Wallentin (vocals and strings, etc.). Together they explore the intersection of jazz, punk, blues and pop, mostly just using suggestive drums and a hugely varied collection of songs that the highly regarded Pitchfork Media compares to both Björk and Nina Simone. When they last performed at Clandestino they were virtually unknown to the audience gathered at roof of the Museum of World World Culture. The debut album Heart Core (Found You Recordings 2007) had not yet reached beyond the innermost circles. Since then a lot has happened. In January 2008 Wildbirds & Peacedrums received Jazz of the Year Award in Sweden, which funded the release of The Snake, released in March 2008 on Caprice. Presently, they are temporarily back in Gothenburg after eagerly touring the world with Lykke Li. No one is happier than we are to present W&P at Clandestino.
