Soom T & Disrupt [Glasgow-Leipzig] ‘
Soom T is the legendary Glaswegian vocalist with a voice and poetry that conquers all. She has released records since 1999 and collaborated with a range of fellow world class artists including Clandestino favourites like Asian Dub Foundation and The Bug. Her latest project with Disrupt on the label Jahtari, the originator of Digital Laptop Reggae, has become an instant smash hit. Jahtari’s raw and heavy 8-bit dub is the most innovative machine music that came crashing down on the dub/reggae scene of late. 100% soulful retro-futurist mayhem! So low-tec, clever and videogame-ish it makes you instantly happy!
Soom T’s latest album on Jahtari “Ode to a carrot” is a complete fuck-all celebration of causing trouble, kicking back, chilling out and not being all that serious – at all. Complete with ganja infused tales of cat – and – mouse run-ins with the police, who always end up on the losing end somehow. All with a dim focus on the trials and tribulations of supplying the good times. Like when the mates manage to mess up Soom T’s recording; “I’m a happy face unless someone smokes my supply and forgets to press record before I finished spitting on the riddim.”
With their crushing Jahtari sounds, Soom T and her ally Disrupt are on a triumphant 8bit dubby streak across the globe! We can just imagine what is expecting us when pondering The Word of the wordsmith herself, in inimitable Glaswegian style:
“I bet you we’ll get you calling quick getting back to us soon
For another night of techno reggae flinging and howling at the moon
From Pariee to Berlin, London to Brigadoon with a gun and a french clown
Rave, jams, jazz, reggae, lazers busking in the toon
Poor but kicking back don’t let them worries ever get me doon”
