Imagine that you are sitting in a concert hall and expecting to listen to a classic chamber piece. Yet what you hear is something very different, something you have never experienced before. It is called Tango Nuevo and it is New Tango Orquesta (NTO) who produce their music as a fusion of tango, baroque, free improvisation, modern chamber music, and minimalism. The whole ensemble so fragile that a gust of wind could make the tones vibrate while presenting the sounds as solid pictures in minor and major, rooted down in the heart of music. All of which is incredibly unerring while at the same time nuanced and full of fantasy. NTO started in1996 as a quintet under the direction of composer Per Strömby who lies behind the remarkable electronic/pop/art-project Zeigeist and who recently released a debut album with the project Pear Fiction. After four acclaimed albums, the fifth ”Vesper” was released in September 2010 – recorded in a little Swedish village in Forsvik, completely cut-off from civilization. This time the project was accompanied by a violinist and the group thereby became a sextet who on the record widen their musical spectrum to a new dimension inspired by the forest and quiet of the enclosed house where the recordings took place. Time in isolation proved advantageous, ”Vesper” has been honored in Sweden’s largest newspapers and received recognition the world over. Even the earlier album ”The Kiev Concert,” which is a live recording from when NTO visited the concert house October Palace in Kiev, received an amazing amount of interest from critics. After attributed international concerts the tour has arrived back in Göteborg and to Clandestino Festival. It is with a lot of eagerness and with an open heart that we will stand amongst the public when Tango Nuevo plays that new music style which will capture our senses that afternoon or vesper as it is called in Latin.
