CLANDESTINO FESTIVAL | MUSIKENS HUS | 4 JUNE 2015

Tsapiky is the vibrant rhythm from the Tulear region in the South of Madagascar which has long fuelled the festivities at the bals poussieres rural dances named for the clouds of dust raised by the dancers’ feet. Damily is the virtuoso in the art of tsapiky guitar-playing who gives his name to the band which has been refining its sound for over fifteen years. Their shared background and experiences make for a unique family unit with a repertoire ranging from electrically charged tsapiky to close harmony renditions of village folk songs or percussion displays powered by the langoro drum and katsa rattle. Tsapiky is woven into the social fabric of Toliara. Damily says:”It’s not only rhythm and colour, it’s a culture we share”.
