Débruit & Alsarah are two musical nomads who on Aljawal (2013), their first collaboration on wax, have found a mesmerising combination of old Sudanese folk melodies and cut-and-paste-dub. Débruit mixes elements from hip-hop and dance music with samples and field recordings from Senegal, Congo, Cairo and Paris and creates a genre defying grovyness. Brooklyn based Alsarah has been called “the new princess of Nubian pop and Sudanese retro”. With her soulful voice she tells stories about love, survival and migration. Toghether, they will enter the stage at Clandestino Festival June 5–7. | Read more & listen
