GOAT

GoatWEB

The group Goat from Osaka, Japan consists of Tetsushi Nishikawa (drums), Akihiko Ando (saxophone), Atsumi Tagami (bass) och Koshiro Hino (guitar). Despite a rather traditional combination of instruments, they are a highly original band whose music lacks both lyrics and melody. Instead they work with timbre and overtones organized into a perfect rhythm similar to the American band Battles, German techno, or krautrock. Guitarist Koshiro Hino—also active in projects such as Bonanzas and as a member of Boredoms—writes all of Goat’s music. Drums are minimal and bass strings are muffled, while the sound of the Saxophone passes through a plastic bottle. According to Hino, the music can be seen as a reflection of a wrecked society where problems are never expressed. No stories, no words—only the ticking of clocks. Goat’s music is meticulously organized, techno without drum machines or sequencers, carried out with impressive precision, as reflected in the title of their latest album: Rhythm & Sound.
