Yasmin Hamdan to play Clandestino Botnik

Yasmin_Hamdan_WebAnother exciting booking for this year’s festival excursion Clandestino Botnik, 27 to 28 July: An icon of the Arab underground music, with a phenomenal new solo album on Crammed Discs.

Yasmine Hamdan is a singer, songwriter and actress of Lebanese descent, currently based in Paris. She rose to fame with the duo Soapkills while she still lived in Beirut. The band quickly became a soundtrack for the young art scene in postwar Lebanon, and today Yasmine is an undergound icon in the Arab world. Two of her songs were featured in the award winning film “Divine Intervention” by director Elia Suleiman. | Read more

THE PARADISE BANGKOK MOLAM INTERNATIONAL BAND

BangkokWebWe are proud to reveal today that we have made yet another extremely exciting booking for this summer’s coolest festival weekend: Clandestino Botnik July 27-28.

Paradise Bangkok is a club in Thailand’s capital driven by Maft Sai and Chris Menist – both DJs that found themselves completely obsessed with old scratchy vinyl records from the 60’s and 70’s Thai music scene (listen to compilation disc Sound of Siam for a good introduction to this hyper-exciting music era in between traditional village music and American pop, which was imported to the region via the Vietnam War). Sai and Menist also run a record label for re-editions and they stand behind the Thai super group “The Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band”.

It is a unique band that was brought together to recreate the old molam-music with modern vibes. The result is a sound unlike anything you’ve heard, and at the same time an introduction to a long-overlooked albeit unlikely creative musical scene. | Read more

Straight from Bogotá: Totó la Momposina

“Cumbia, that’s when Indians and Africans dance together.” That’s how Totó la Momposina describes the music she’s lived with for six decades (interview in the latest issue of Lira). She is a twofold Latin Grammy-winner, with great respect and pride for the ancient musical traditions of Colombia – and at the same time frequently remixed by newer-time dance music producers. “when someone makes a composition and fifty years pass that music is part of the people, so now [my] music is property of the people because it’s now part of the people’s identity,” she says in a different interview. Don’t miss the chance to see Toto la Momposina live at Clandestino Festival on Saturday, June 8th! | More

Livsfarligt dj at Clandestino Festival 8 juni

livsfarligtWebJust one week until Clandestino Festival 7-8 June, and we can proudly say that we booked the tremendously groovy dj duo, Livsfarligt, which will start the evening at Stora Teatern: Livsfarligt formed a summer night in 2012 in a damp basement club in Gothenburg. No limits, no genres, no fear: From dark heavy dub to twittering electronic tones. Livsfarligt will make you dance, melt into the music and forget about everything else for a short time by recreating that damp basement room and fill it with new experiences. | Read more

Warm Up 24 May: Filastine featuring Nova

FilastineNova1_RickshawWeb

Yaki Da
Storgatan 47 Göteborg
Friday 24 May
7 PM (on stage 9 PM)
Price: 100kr

Two weeks before Clandestino Festival June 7-8, we invite you to a warm up concert at Yaki Da which will activate all your rhythm glands and put eardrums in irresistibly suggestive vibrations. Back from electro acoustic explorations far and wide: Filastine featuring Nova (who played at Clandestino Festival 2012).

No matter where Filastine steps with his feet, he gathers our hurt, our sorrow, our strength and vitality to offer a helping hand back to us. Analogue lives are taped, analysed, digitized, sliced, diced, scratched, manipulated, layered, fixed and placed on a foundation of bass, and the sound of a gun being cocked acts as a crisp snare, compressed into speakers placed left, right, above and below. Percussion hits of the Gamelan to the Sinai engage in rituals alongside melodies from the Balkans to Barcelona to NYC, presenting a rich global sweatbox.

As with the new album, Colony Collapse, vocalist Nova Ruth will be present to weave her words onto the canvass enhancing the transmission of truth to our receivers.

Fighting for humanity never felt so good on the dance-floor.

You are the weapon, and the resistance is fertile.
