A band name chosen with care: Erotic Market makes humorous, erotic low-budget hip-hop in a French flavored English. On the latest single I Want To Be Some Booty, they unabashedly borrow parts of an old Aaliyah song, add cracked beats and fun synths. The duo consists of the two former jazz musicians Marine Pellegrini and Lucas Garnier. The live version also consists of two additional members making up a combo of drums, bass, keyboards, electronics and vocals. The debut album with the equally cocky title Blahblahrians is out on French label Jarred Effects and presents a naughty mix of influences: M.I.A. and The Knife mixed with Björk and old skool hip hop; featuring tropicalia percussion and a distorted bass that sounds like an erotic fleemarket bargain. Marine Pellegrini’s cool vocals deliver lyrics “en franglais” like, “I want you to love my booty, not my inner beauty”.
