Chicaloyoh is the musical alter ego of Alice Dourlen. This one-man band from the Norman plains of France makes desolate music with echoes of Nico, sixties psychedelia and minimalist post-punk. The songs on her debut album Folie Sacrée (released on Belgian label Shelter Press) ignores traditional pop structure, instead it flows like an autumn landscape viewed from a train window. Rudimentary guitar patterns, abstract synth figures and ritual drums that make The Cures “Pornography” seem like a Funky Drummer-party. The lasting impression of Chicaloyoh is a sacred, mass like atmosphere and Alice Dourlen’s frosty, beautiful voice.
