JERUSALEM IN MY HEART

Jerusalem In My Heart is a collaboration between the Montreal-based Lebanese producer and musician Radwan Ghazi Moumneh and his Canadian friend Charles-André Coderre. Radwan is behind the compositions while Charles-André creates the band’s visual universe, ensuring no two performances are the same.

Since 2005 they have combined modern Arabic and electronic music with 16 mm film projections and strategically placed light installations. The relationship between music and other art forms is explored through what may seem like simple means: Buzuk, eloctronics, vocals and an adventurous trip through contemporary Arabic music.

Radwan Gahzi Moumneh has since the 1990s been a key actor on Montreal’s independent scenes, at first as a guitarist and later on as a producer. He is also active on the experimental scenes of Beirut and Lebanon, and has collaborated with artists such as Matana Roberts, Mashrou’ Leila, Ought, Eric Chenaux, and Suuns.

Jerusalem In My Heart’s latest album, 2015’s If he dies, if if if if if if, has led to successful performances all around the world. Since the night we got to experience their performance at the CTM Festival in Berlin we haven’t been able to stop thinking about the meaning of this duo’s name.
