CLANDESTINO FESTIVAL 5–7 JUNE
Reserve the 5th–7th of June as the music weekend of the year! Now we have the honor to welcome the great qawwali-master Raza Khan from India to the program for Clandestino Festival. In addition to that we can also add the geomungo-hackers Geomungo Factory from South Korea to the line up of the festival.
RAZA KHAN
Sufism is a tradition within islam where the music and poetry is used to purify the mind from the earthly distortion and open the senses to God and eternity. The most important music style within sufism is qawwali, and one of its prime representatives is Raza Khan. To watch Raza perform live is a mesmerising experience, not least because of the wordless communication that takes place between the musicians. In what seems to be as much a jam session as it is a meditation, several singers take turns in delivering long, wordless song melismas in a sometimes ecstatic state. | Read more & listen
GEOMUNGO FACTORY
The instrument geomungo is a big cittra that has been played at the Korean peninsula since time immemorial. The quartet Geomungo Factory from Seoul has created completely new versions of the instrument, for example a glockenspiel-geomungo and an electrified version where different effects units distorts the sound. The result is a tradi-modern blend of Korean and Western, where Sonic Youth, minimalism and rock is mixed with tango, Tjajkovski and Korean art music. All done with a big portion of charm and desire for experimentation. | Read more & listen
