With certitude and originality the avant gardist Peder Mannerfelt creates his own electronic universe. As part of the duo Roll The Dice he has created experimental, drone-oriented electronic music since 2007, but is probably most well known as his pseudonym The Subliminal Kid, working with Fever Ray and Blonde Redhead as well as remixing Massive Attack, Lykke Li, and Bat for Lashes.
Peder Mannerfelt deconstructs music. He removes its frames and structures in order to open up for interpretations and ambiguities while, contradictorily enough, striving to mediate a clear message. Although he is a veteran on the techno stage, it was until only recently that he took to the stage using his own name, with the album debut Lines Describing Cricles. , Using his own combination of ambient, drone, and experimental electro, Mannerfelt crafts an impressively sinister, frightful atmosphere which envelops the album like a veil.
His debut was followed by The Swedish Congo Record where Mannerfelt interprets rare, traditional Congolese music from the 1950s. He doesn’t sample but rather artificially reacreates both rhythm and melody, whilst at the same time adding his own input. The result becomes both a tribute to the original and unique Congolese percussion combinations, and a comment exploring European colonialism.
For his latest album, the nine track Controlling Body, recently released in April 2016, he has collaborated with the artist Glasser, who adds a new dimension to Peder Mannerfelt’s deconstructed universe of sound.
